The Lilburn Residence Trust was established in 2004 with the following goals:
• To acquire and maintain the former residence of Douglas Lilburn in Ascot Terrace, Thorndon, Wellington
• To allow use of the house for the purpose of a composer residency or other residency which promotes the best interests of New Zealand music
• Through offering the house as a residence, increase the performance and dissemination of the music of Douglas Lilburn and other New Zealand composers
• To enrich the cultural life of New Zealand by providing creative opportunities for professional composers
• To contribute to the documentation of, and education about New Zealand’s musical heritage
Current activities are:
• to purchase Lilburn’s former home
• to register the property with Historic Places Trust and on the WCC district plan
• to co-operate with the Randell Cottage Trust and Rita Angus Cottage to establish an enclave of artist residencies in Thorndon
• to arrange activities which highlight the work and goals of the Lilburn Residence Trust
